Dr. Alaa Ashmawy joined AUD in 2006 as Dean of Engineering. Prior to his appointment at AUD, he had been a tenured Associate Professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Dr. M. Nabyl Chenaf is a professor of Architecture and Dean of the school of Architecture, Art and Design at the American University in Dubai. Before that, he worked as the Editor of the Arabic/English edition of l”ARCA magazine of Architecture, Design and Visual Communication. He taught Interior Design, Architecture and Urban Planning since 1989 year of completion of his Ph.D. from Nottingham University - UK. He served as the president of the national committee of pedagogy of town management and urban techniques in Algeria, as well as a member/chair of organizing and scientific committees in several international conferences on Architecture and Urban Planning in the UAE. He is a peer reviewer for research funding institutions and has been regularly involved in research supervision and juries for international competitions in Architecture and Urban Design. Finally, Dr. Chenaf delivers training workshops in town management and planning to senior decision-makers and operators in the field in several countries.

Dr. Mohamad Nagi has more than 30 years’ experience in construction materials, corrosion of metals, durability, repair and non-destructive test methods. Currently he services as the Director of Infrastructure Sustainability and Assessment Centre at the American University of Dubai. Until October of 2009, he was the regional manager of the materials technology and asset integrity group of GHD in Dubai. Prior to joining GHD, he worked for 16 years at CTLGroup, a leading engineering firm specialised in concrete materials and structures in the United States. Dr. Nagi worked on many projects dealing with all aspects of durability of reinforced concrete structures in the Gulf region and in the U.S.A. While at CTL, he was in charge of evaluating and assessing major structures (new and existing) such as bridges, refineries and nuclear power plants. At GHD, Dr. Nagi Served as project director of an IVTA (Independent Verification and Testing Agency) program for Burj Khalifa and the Qatalum Aluminium Plant in Qatar. In the last few years, he prepared durability studies for key projects in KSA, UAE, Kuwait and Qatar and he was appointed as third party reviewer for several key bridge projects in the region to asses the durability and define the actual service life of structures. He has been the author of more than 40 technical papers on concrete materials, asset integrity, corrosion, durability and non-destructive testing.
